Distance swimmer Kate Ziegler broke Janet Evans' 1650-yard freestyle American record Thursday December 7th at the Tom Dolan Invitational. The meet was held at George Mason University, Fairfax, VA
Ziegler's time was15:37.17, which broke the previous 16-year-old standard of 15:39.14 set by Janet Evans on March 17, 1990 in Austin, Texas at the NCAA Championships. The time also set the 17-18 National Age Group and U.S. Open record, as well as several PVS records.
Kate now owns all three yard records previously held by Janet Evans. She set the 1000-yard free standard last December at the Tom Dolan Invite and the 500-yard free record in February of this year at the Washington Metropolitan High School Championships in Germantown, Md.
