PVS Swimmer Sets Amercian Record

Three Potomac Valley swimmers competed at the US Paralympics National Swimming Championships outside of Portland, OR over the weekend of July 15-17. This meet highlighted the capabilities of swimmers with physical disabilities. In attendance were not only top US athletes but National teams from Japan, Australia, Canada and Great Britain.

U.S. Paralympics National Team member Toni Davis, S8 classification representing Team Elite Swim Club, set two American records. She lowered the mark in the Women's 100 meter Butterfly with a time of 1:25.78, surpassing the record she also set last fall at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens. Earlier in the meet, she established a new standard in the 200 meter Butterfly of 3:18.25, bettering her own American record as well. Toni also qualified for and swam the 100 Back, 50 and 100 Free.

Alice Ranagan, S8 classification representing Sea Devil Swimming, became National Champion in the Women's 200 meter Backstroke. Alice also competed in the 100 Back, 50 and 100 Free.
