Eligibility: Open to Potomac Valley Swimming registered athletes and invited USA Swimming athletes. Contestants must have equaled or bettered the applicable cut-off times listed. Do not enter with a time achieved prior to July 5, 1998.
Warnings:

Any club that enters an unregistered or improperly registered athlete, falsifies an entry in any way, or permits an unregistered coach to represent them, will be fined the sum of $100.00 and no further entries will be accepted from that club until the said fine has been paid.

All entry times and USA Swimming memberships are subject to verification. Any athlete not achieving a QT, may be asked to prove the entry time to the Meet Director prior to the end of the meet.

Entry fees are due with meet entry. Unpaid fees will be reported to the PVS Administrative Office at the conclusion of the meet.

Rules:

Current USA Swimming rules shall govern the meet. A contestant may compete in a maximum of six (6) individual events, and compete in no more than three (3) individual events per day. A club may enter up to three relay teams per relay event, but only two relay teams per club per relay event may score. The 200 M Freestyle and Medley Relays (events 21-22 and 33-34) will not be scored.

All events are trials and finals, except for relays and the 800 M and 1500 M Freestyle, which are timed finals.

No late entries are permitted for this meet.

The "Whistle Start Protocol" and "No Recall" procedures will be used at this meet.

Withdrawing From Finals: PVS scratch rules apply for swimmers scratching finals. If a swimmer fails to properly scratch from a final event and does not appear for the final, he/she "will be barred from further competition for the remainder of the meet".
Positive Check In: Positive check-in is required for all individual events 400 Meters and over, and all Relays. These events will be seeded on the deck. Swimmers who do not check-in will be scratched from that event. Athletes who have checked in, have been seeded, and fail to swim the event will be barred from their next scheduled individual event.
Order of Swims:

There will be three heats swum in finals for all individual events except the 800 and 1500 events, which are timed finals as stated above. Heats will be swum in the following order: "A", "B", and "C" (previously referred to as finals, consolation and bonus).

Short Course times will be seeded after long course entry times.

Heats of distance events (800 and 1500) will be swum fast to slow, alternating women and men. The fastest seeded heat of the women's 800 and men's 1500 will be the first event of the Sunday finals session.

Bonus Event: Any athlete, who is entered into at least one individual event, may also enter one bonus event. If entered in 2 or more individual events they may enter 2 bonus events. To enter a bonus event, your entry time must satisfy the QT for the PVS Junior Short Course Championship. Athletes entering bonus events may compete in no more than the maximum events per session or meet.
Time Trials: Time trials will be held following the completion of the finals session each evening. An athlete must compete in an individual event in the meet in order to participate in the time trials. Athletes are permitted one time trial per time trial session provided that this participation does not cause them to exceed the three events per day limitation. Time trial fee is $10.00 /attempt. The order of time trial events will be those events contested that day followed by those events remaining to be contested, followed by those events already contested.
Warm-up: The prescribed Potomac Valley Swimming warm-up procedures and safety policies will be followed. The Meet Director may determine the structure of the warm-up, including times and lane assignments. During the meet there will be continuous warm-up/warm-down lanes. Persons will be assigned to monitor these areas. If at any time conditions become unsafe, the area will be closed for the remainder of the session.
Scoring: Individual Events: 20,17, 16, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Relay Events: 40, 34, 32, 30, 28, 26, 24, 22, 18, 14, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2

Officials assigned to this meet sign in at the recording table at the start of each warm-up session. Certified officials who have not been contacted should volunteer their services to the referee. Those officials working a minimum of three (3) complete sessions will be able to apply for national certification. A comprehensive officials' briefing will precede each session during warm-up.
