Facility
  • 8 Lane 50 meter pool x 24 lane 25 yard pool.
  • Non-turbulent lane lines.
  • Colorado Timing system will be used.
  • Pool depth is 9 feet at shallow end to 13 feet at deep end.
WARM-UP The prescribed Potomac Valley Swimming Warm-up procedures and safety policies will be followed. The Meet Director may determine the structure of the warm-up, including times and lane assignments. Continuous warm-up will be available in the diving well end of the competition pool throughout the meet. Special Lanes will be designated by the meet referee for relay start practice in the warm-up lanes.
PURPOSE
  1. To provide highly energetic team spirited event with an emphasis on sportsmanship and having FUN.
  2. To provide an opportunity for national relay qualifying times.
  3. To provide a unique and fun opportunity for Special Olympians.
  4. To help raise money for the Special Olympics organization.
ELIGIBILITY Open to all USA Swimming registered athletes ages 6-18. Swimmers shall compete at the age intended on the first day of the meet. An athlete may only compete in his or her own age group and OPEN events. Entry times and USA Swimming memberships are subject to confirmation. Individual swimmers may compete on up to 3 relay events per day.
RULES 1999-2000 United States Swimming Rules shall govern the meet. The new "whistle starting protocol" and the "no recall" procedures will be used at this meet except at the 6-8 yr. old sessions. All events are timed finals. A swimmer may compete in no more than three relay teams per day. All standard USA Swimming relay rules will apply. Backstroke relays will follow prescribed USA Swimming rules for the initial start. Subsequent starts shall be a forward start. Swimmers are permitted one arm stroke or simultaneous double arm pull before rotating to their back. No dolphin kicking is permitted prior to rotating to their back. All other backstroke rules apply including the requirement to surface before the 15 meter mark. The meet director, in conjunction with the meet referee, reserves the right to determine rules not previously addressed for any special events. Positive Check-in WILL NOT be in effect.
AWARDS Awards will be presented for the top 16 places as follows:
1st - 3rd = Medals, 4th - 8th = Rosette Ribbons, 9th - 16th = Ribbons
CLERK OF COURSE A clerk of course will be operated by the host team during the 8 & under sessions. For other sessions, coaches are asked to not have relay team members report more than one heat early in order to avoid undue congestion behind the starting blocks and on the bulkhead

ENTRIES All entries should be submitted on (Hy-Tek) computer Disk. Please include all swimmer's names on your disk entry for ease of data entry. Entries not submitted on disk must be handwritten (including all swimmer's names) on standard PVS master entry forms and will be charged $1.00 surcharge per relay. A meet entry report by EVENT, listing 4 swimmers, from Meet Manager must accompany each team's entry. A completed ENTRY COVER SHEET, signature and phone number of a club official must also be included with entry for validation. Entries will be limited by a maximum number of heats per event. (Indicated on the EVENTS SCHEDULE). Relay entries that do not make the cut will be reimbursed prior to the date of the meet. Aggregate times should be used for entry.
FEES Fees for each Relay are $10.00. Each club is requested to remit one check to cover the entries for the entire team. Please do not send cash.
ENTRY PROCEDURES / RULES
  1. The qualifying time for each event will be based upon the conglomerate of USA BB time standards for 1999 in each event. Entry times must be aggregates of the times for the swimmers anticipated to participate on each relay. Past RELAY times may not be used.
  2. All entry times should be calculated from the swimmer's fastest SHORT COURSE YARDS individual performances. Long Course times will not be accepted and should not be used. Entry times for 13-Over 200 Relays where the swimmers do not have 50 yd. times (50 fly, 50 back, 50 breast) require the coach to use 1/2 of the relay teams 400 yard time. (Divide 400 yd. relay entry time by 2).
  3. Teams may enter up to 5 relays which meet the qualifying times. Relays are NOT guaranteed spaces in the meet until the Meet Director has seeded each event. Relays which do not make the FINAL CUT will be reimbursed prior to the meet. Finalized heat sheets will be posted on the PVS web site about one week prior to the meet.
  4. Two relays per team may score. All relays are eligible for awards.
  5. The meet manager has indicated in these announcements the maximum number of entries for each event. In the event that this number is not reached the meet manager will open these events to all teams on a first come basis provided the extra entries meet the qualifying times. Teams interested in entering extra relays beyond 5 should contact the meet manager on April 24th.
LATE ENTRIES Late Entries may be accepted at the Meet Directors discretion through April 26th, 2000 provided there are spaces available. Entries will not be accepted after this date. THERE WILL BE NO DECK ENTRIES. All events will be pre-seeded.
ENTRY DEADLINE The Meet Director must receive all entries for this meet no later than
5:00 p.m. Friday April 14th 2000

CONCESSIONS A concession stand will be provided throughout the meet by the host team. Hospitality will be provided for the coaches, volunteers, and officials.

WARNING Any club that enters an unregistered athlete, falsifies an entry in any way, or permits an unregistered coach to represent them, will be fined the sum of $100 and participation will be prohibited in the future.
SUPERVISION Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their swimmers and for cleaning up their team areas after each session.
ADMISSION There is no admission charge. Programs for each session will be available for $3.00 . Coaches and working officials will receive one program free of charge. $1.00 from each program sale is required for GMU parking fee.
TIMERS All participating teams will be required to provide timers for each session in accordance with the number of entries from each team. The host club will provide one timer per lane for all sessions. The meet director will contact all participating teams with the number of timers to be provided.
OFFICIALS An official's list from each participating team shall be submitted with entries. Officials will be contacted by the host team and assigned to requested sessions. SPECIAL OLYMPICS SESSION

Friday evening session will feature a Special Olympics swim meet. The Special Olympics meet will be conducted by the Northern Virginia Special Olympics and the Potomac Marlins U.S. Swim Team.

The intent of the Relay Mania Relay Championships is to provide a quality venue for the Special Olympic Athletes to compete and to help raise money for the Special Olympics Organization and to raise the level of community awareness for such events.

25 % of the proceeds from the Relay Mania event will be donated to the Special Olympics.

An event schedule will be provided by the Special Olympics. All U.S.S. coaches, parents and swimmers are invited to participate with the running of the Special Olympics portion of this meet.
