* Two courses will be used during the 13 & over Preliminary Sessions. Athletes should consider this when selecting events.
* All finals will be conducted at Oak Marr. The exception being 10 & Under events which are timed finals and will be swum at Wakefield Park as part of 11-12 preliminaries.
* Both competition sites will have continuous warm-up/ warm-down throughout the meet.
| Eligibility | Open to all registered Potomac Valley athletes and invited United States Swimming Athletes. * A contestant may participate in only his or her own age group events or in senior events which are open to all ages. Contestants must have equaled or bettered the applicable qualifying times listed. * A contestant may enter a maximum of six (6) individual events and no more than three (3) individual events per day. |
| Rules: | Current United States Swimming rules shall govern the meet. |
| Individual Events |
* All 11 & over events are trials and finals except for relays; the 1000 freestyle (13-14 & Senior), 1650 freestyle (13-14 & Senior), and the 11-12 500 freestyle which will be timed finals. * All 11-12 individual events will have one heat in the finals sessions. * All 13-14 and Senior individual events will have a consolation and a final heat, except the 13-14 500 freestyle and 13- 14 400 IM, which will have a final heat only. * All 10 & under events are timed finals. * 1000, 1650, and 12 & Under 500 freestyle events and 400 IM require positive check-in. * 13-14 and Senior distance events will be swum combined, age groups will be scored separately. * 1000, 1650, and 12 & Under 500 freestyle will be swum fastest to slowest. * The fastest heat of the combined 1650 freestyle will swim as the first event in finals on the final day of the meet All other 1650 swimmers will swim at the conclusion of the trials session. * All distance events must be verified with the meet & date of the meet where the qualifying time was achieved. This verification of entry times is to be provided with the entry. Entries failing to provide verification will not be accepted. Acceptable verification includes the Hy-Tek entry report. * Any 1000 freestyle not verified prior to 5:00 PM on Thursday, December 18 will be dropped from the meet. * All other entry times requiring verification must be verified before 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 18 or they will will be dropped from the meet. * Time trials will not be conducted at this meet. |
| Relay Events |
* All relays require positive check-in. * There is no limit on the number of relay entries per club but only two relay teams per club per relay event may score. * Verification of entry time must be provided for all relay entries with the entry, composite time is acceptable. Relay entries with "no time (NT)" will not be accepted. * All relay entry times requiring verification must be verified before 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 18 or they will will be dropped from the meet. |
* For those events requiring positive check-in, athletes (or coaches for relay events) shall designate their intention to swim the event on the forms provided at the scratch table.
* Athletes who have not checked-in prior to the specified time will be scratched from the event.
* Athletes who have checked-in, have been seeded, and fail to swim the event will be barred from their next scheduled individual event, unless excused by the Referee.
* If you do not wish to swim in the Final, you may "Scratch" from the event by following the proper procedure:
You must fill out and sign a PVS Finals Scratch Slip within 30 minutes of the announcement of qualifiers for finals, consols, or bonus heat, if scheduled.
You may declare an intent to "scratch." You must fill out and sign a PVS Finals Scratch Slip within 30 minutes of the annoucement of qualifiers, marking the appropriate space for "intent."
You must confirm this intent on the PVS Finals Scratch Slip within 30 minutes after the conclusion of your last preliminary event of the day or you will be automatically scratched.
* If an athlete fails to properly scratch from an event and does not appear for the Final event, they "shall be barred from further competition for the remainder of the meet"

| Warm-up: | The prescribed PVS warm-up procedures and safety policies will be followed. The Meet Manager has the right to assign warm-up periods to ensure a safe environment. Coaches will be notified if such a situation occurs. |
| Supervision: | Coaches are responsible for the conduct of their Swimmers and Families and for cleaning up their team areas. * Parents not working the meet as a deck official, volunteer lane timer, or other meet position are not permitted on deck. Only athletes, USS certified coaches, and deck officials permitted on the pool deck. Coaches & deck officials are required to display their 1997 USS card. |
| Warning: | Any club or individual that enters an unregistered athlete, falsifies an entry in any way, or permits an unregistered club to represent them, will be fined the sum of $100.00 and no further entries will be accepted from that club until the said fine has been paid. |
| Awards: | All 14 & under events will receive awards for 1st through 8th place for individual events and 1st through 3rd place for relay events. High point awards will be presented to first place boys and girls in each age group and senior. |
| Officials: | Officials for this meet will be assigned by the PVS Officials Chairman/ Meet Referee. This meet counts toward National Certification. Certified officials who have not been contacted, should volunteer their services to the Meet Referee. Officials are to arrive on time for listed warm-up periods and sign-in at the Officials Table. |
| Timers: | Participating Clubs are required to provide timers throughout the meet in proportion to their entries. The Meet Manager will determine the number of timers per club and lane assignments. The Host Club is required to provide one timer per lane. |
| Admission: | There is no admission charge. The meet program will be available for $10.00, and will include a coupon for a finals program for each finals session conducted at no additional charge PVS members who present their current Family Membership card are entitled to purchase one program for $5.00. |
| Fees: | Fees for individuals events are $4.00; relay events are $8.00. Each club is requested to remit one check to cover the entry fees for the entire club. Make checks payable to Potomac Valley Swimming. Please send no cash. ALL ENTRY FEES ARE DUE ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE MEET. |
| Entries: | ALL entries require a completed "cover sheet." Entries may be submitted on a PVS master entry sheet. List one age group per page. DO not list relay events on the same page as individual events. Fill-out the entry form in a legible manner. Un-readable entries, entries not submitted on the required forms, not complete, failing to list a phone number of a club official, or lacking a signature will not be accepted. Necessary forms are available from the Potomac Valley Swimming Office .Coaches are encouraged to enter via computer disk (Hy-Tek). Relays may be entered on disk. Include one meet entry report by swimmer and one report by event (created in Team Manager, no Commlink generated reports). Disk entries are "as is." The Meet Manager will not make any changes to disk entries. DO NOT include a list of corrections. Send two 3.5 inch disks. Include a stamped, addressed mailer for disk return following the meet. |
| Entry Times: | Long course entry times must be designated with a capital letter "L." These non-conforming times will be seeded after short course entry times. Disk entries will require a separate Commlink file for long course entry times and appropriate reports. |
| Entry Due Date: | The Meet Manager must receive all PVS entries for this meet no later than 6:00 PM, Tuesday,
December 9, 1997. Out-of-town (invited) entries are due no later than 6:00 PM, Tuesday, December 2, 1997. Out-of-town entries will be accepted on a first-come basis. |
