IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE 14 & UNDER POLAR BEAR MEET
We are looking forward to hosting your teams in the Polar Bear meet! Yesterday, we learned that due to a scheduling conflict, we are unable to use the South Run facility the weekend of Jan. 16-17 for our afternoon meet. Thankfully, we have secured another venue in which our swimmers can compete. Times have changed as well and I want to pass along the information to you and your families. The meet will be held at:
George Washington RECenter
8426 Old Mt.
Vernon Road
Alexandria, VA 22309
703-780-8894
Directions: George Washington RECenter can be reached by taking Beltway Exit 177A which is Richmond Highway or Route 1 south and then turning left on Route 235 which is Mount Vernon Highway. At the fork in the road bear right onto Route 623 which is Old Mount Vernon Highway. The park entrance is on the right.
This is an 8 lane pool, with very limited deck seating for swimmers and virtually no observation seating. In fact, with all the expected swimmers inside, there would be little to no space available for parents/siblings; there is not an above ground observation seating area available. The amount of people allowed in will need to be restricted due to Fire Marshall code. If swimmers could carpool for this particular meet, that would really be ideal!
I went over our prior timeline and would like to propose that in the first session on Saturday, we combine the Girls and Boys 6 & under 25 yard events. This means:
Events 3&4 - 25 back - 12 swimmers
Events 7&8 - 25 breast - 7 swimmers
Events 11&12- 25 fly - 4 swimmers
Events 15&16- 25 free -12 swimmers
With combination of those events and restricting seating, I believe that our general timeline will be:
Day 1 -
Session 1, Sat. - 8 & under w/up - 3:30-3:50pm. Events 4:00-4:45pm
Session 2, Sat. - 10-14 w/up - 5:00-5:20pm, Events 5:30-8:20pm
Day 2 -
Session 3, Sun. - 10 & under w/up - 7:30-8:00am, Events 8:10 - 9:40am
Session 4, Sun. - 10-14 w/up - 10:15-10:45am, Events 11am-1pm
We will place our meet sheet and timeline online shortly at www.seadevils.org . Please remember to print your own copies and familiarize your swimmer with their events, heat and lane number. Timers and officials, of course, will be allowed in so that is one way to see your child swim! Sergio Nirenberg is the contact for Officials - snirenberg@gmail.com, I have the timer list and would be happy to have some help from our visiting teams as per meet announcement notes- loripawlik@seadevils.org .
Coaches - if you could put this out to your families and let us (Melanie or me) know of any corrections that need to be made, I would appreciate it. It is unfortunate that I have to report this to you and I kindly ask for your patience and help in giving our swimmers the opportunity to swim their best! Please let me know if there is anything else that is needed.
Thank you,
Lori Pawlik
